Tea Time

This machine knit tea set was inspired by my English family history. I grew up in America, and through this project, I was exploring the British culture of tea drinking as I remember from visits to family in the English countryside. The color selection for this project was inspired by the landscapes and scenery of these experiences.

Inspiration

Photographs of the Cotswolds gathered for inspiration and visual research. Observations paid particularly to texture and color.

Making process

Fabric made on a single bed knitting machine. The knit-weaving method is used with chenille yarns passing through a colorful stripe repeat of knitted finer yarns. Studies were made before knitting the final fabric to distinguish the pattern.
